Wichi Art School stands for a long term education plan, based on meditation and on the playing and understanding of music. In January 2009, the first centre was opened in the ancient holy town of Varanasi (Benares). With this solidarity initiative, a first in the area, our intention is to guarantee the health, alimentation and education of the children and to enter into their families through specifically thought through programs. At this moment, 10 children aged between 5 and 12, chosen from the most needy families of the area, are starting their learning process, and are receiving adecuate alimentation and periodical medical check ups. We hope to ensure the developing of this community through teaching these children how to become teachers for the next generation in their turn. This is the Wichi Project, a unique program. The Limay Organization for Developing the Villages, is an NGO registered in Palma de Mallorca. Its principal goal is to cover the basic needs of the most unfortunate in the most needy areas of the world with the assosation created in India Bhandra Kali
Since January 2009, the organisation is focusing on improving the everyday living conditions in several socially and economically deprived areas, and on giving the most forgotten a chance to build a world with the same opportunities as all.
The first project is located in the town of Varanasi, India, where a building was renovated to accomodate the first students of the Wichi Art School program.

Varanasi
Varanasi (Benares) is situated on the banks of the river Ganges in the state of Uttar Pradesh (India). It is one of the seven holy towns, and for a long time it was one of the richest and most important areas in the country. Now however, Varanasi can be counted among the poorest places in the world. Here we have installed a program that interacts with the local population through the education of the children, in which way we can communicate with the families and collaborate with the community. We have chosen Varanasi for the cultural richess and vast musical tradition. Many musicians from all over the world travel to Varanasi to fuse their music with the traditional Hindu sounds and we would like to take advantage of this situation to pass on the treasure to our students by offering high standard classes of learning how to play and understand several traditional instruments.
Apart from the traditional, general education, the Wichi Art School program is searching to enforce the cultural roots of the communities where we operate. In the case of India, we focus on meditation and on the teaching of the traditional Hindu music. |
